Sarah donates proceeds of concert to 'Yolanda' survivors --- Repost from "ABS-CBN News"

Popstar Princess Sarah Geronimo vowed to donate part of the proceeds of her 10th anniversary concert to the survivors of super typhoon “Yolanda,” which is said to be the world’s strongest cyclone this year.

Speaking during her “Perfect 10” concert at the Araneta Coliseum last Friday, Geronimo said what happened in Visayas broke her heart that she has decided to help the victims in a way that she can.

“Gusto kong sabihin na ginagawa ko ito para sa kanila. Sila ang pag-aalayan natin ng concert na ito ngayong gabi. Hindi sapat ang salita para i-describe kung gaano kasakit ang nangyayari sa bansa, sa lahat ng nabiktima ng Yolanda,” she said.

Saying she believes that nothing can dampen the Filipino spirit, Geronimo said the Filipinos will certainly rise again amid this tragedy that left thousands of people dead.

“Masuwerte tayong buhay tayo at magkakasama tayo. Malalapagpasan natin ito. Sa gitna ng dilim, hinagpis at kawalan, nawa’y makita natin ang maliwanag na ilaw na gagabay sa atin para hindi tayo maligaw at mawalan ng pag-asa,” she said.

Geronimo then performed “Light of a Million Mornings,” with images of the typhoon-hit Visayas flashing in the backdrop.
On Sunday night, the 25-year-old singer also joined the ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya Telethon where she helped answer calls of people who pledge donations for the Yolanda victims.

“Napakabigat as damdamin na nakikita mo ang mga images ng destruction na binigay ng Yolanda and the night before my concert, napanaginipan ko pa yung isa sa mga images na nakikita ko sa news,” she said.

“Delubyo po talaga. Ang daming nawala sa mga kababayan natin and ang kailangan nating gawin ay magdasal and dapat tumulong po talaga tayo,” she added.

Aside from her concert at the Araneta Coliseum last Friday, Geronimo will stage a repeat of her show at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on November 30, and at the Cebu Waterfront Hotel on December 7.

According to the latest figures from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the death toll from the super typhoon which hit central Philippines last November 8 has already risen to 3,976.
