MANILA -- Matteo Guidicelli does not mind that his girlfriend, pop star Sarah Geronimo, is seen as "the bigger star" in their relationship.
In a live interview on "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" on Wednesday, the 24-year-old actor was asked to react to this supposed public perception. Host Boy Abunda told Guidicelli: "Let me be very, very straightforward. Sarah is a bigger star. Is that a problem?"
Guidicelli answered: "In my eyes, it's not a problem. When we're together, I don't see her as a superstar. I see her as the person I love and as a normal person."
Dubbed local showbiz's "Popstar Royalty," Geronimo, 26, started her multi-awarded career in 2003 when she won a singing contest. She has since released over 10 albums, headlined international concert tours, and topbilled six films and four TV series.
Geronimo is a relative newcomer to the industry, having started acting professionally in 2007. Before he entered showbiz, Matteo was known as a champion racer. He now actively participates in triathlons in the country.
Asked if Geronimo's bigger stature has become a problem for her, Guidicelli said: "I don't think so. She sees herself as a normal person, eh. She wants the best for me also. I want the best for her. I just want her to see what's normal."
Guidicelli is currently promoting his first comedy film "Moron 5.2: The Transformation," which will hit cinemas nationwide on November 5. He will also star in the 15th installment of "Shake, Rattle & Roll," one of eight entries in this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.
Having just released her 11th studio album "Perfectly Imperfect," Geronimo has been touring to promote the new record. This is on top of shooting episodes of the ongoing "The Voice of the Philippines," where she is one of the four coaches.
Admittedly, their packed schedules only allow the two to see each other once or twice a week, according to Guidicelli. "It's just like triathlon," he said. "If you really love something, you find ways to do it, you find ways to be with the person."
